About Us

Mike Wheeler

Mike and Allyn are Seattleites who started gardening in 2003 and eventually found that they liked growing food more than they liked their regular day jobs in the city. Mike left his stable job doing boat repair to take an organic-farm internship on Whidbey Island's Willowood Farm and has pursued larger-scale farming since 2007. Allyn currently works full time as a research scientist and doubles as a farmer in the evenings and on the weekends.

Roots Underground was only a ten person friends and family CSA last year, but it has since evolved into a real food subscription business where we sell “shares” to folks who want local organically-grown food. We currently lease land between Carnation and Duvall and are planning to cultivate two acres for the 2011 growing season. We will begin to have a roadside stand as soon as produce is available in addition to our food subscription service that we now run.

We hope to own our own farm in the future as land prices continue to fall, and as we become more involved in the Snoqualmie River Valley farming community and Snoqualmie Valley Tilth, opportunities may present themselves to those who wait.
